At 5895 meters, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa and, as such, one of the Seven Summits. It is also a peak that is accessible to experienced trekkers. The short duration of the expedition, from 7 to 10 days, requires a good knowledge of oneself and a controlled pace of ascent to optimize acclimatization and avoid acute mountain sickness (AMS). It is by far the most popular high-altitude summit on the planet, with nearly 40,000 trekkers, and we see a success rate of 70% to 90% depending on the route.
Kilimanjaro offers five main routes: Marangu, Machame, Lemosho, Rongai, and the Northern Circuit, which bypasses the caldera to the north. We have chosen three routes for their variety of landscapes, approach, and style: 7 days via the Machame route on the southwest slope and 7 days via the wild Rongai route on the north slope. The Northern Circuit route offers an optimized approach for acclimatization in 9 days, and is also wild.
Located on the equator, Kilimanjaro can be climbed practically all year round. However, November, April, and May are best avoided as they are the wettest months.
But Kilimanjaro is first and foremost a landscape of rare beauty. In fact, Mount Kilimanjaro is not just a single peak. As with many volcanoes, several craters have formed over the course of different eras. Mount Meru (4566 m) dominates the city of Arusha. Located 70 kilometers from Kili, it belongs to the same volcanic system. Kilimanjaro itself has three craters: Shira (3962 m), Mawenzi (5149 m) and finally Kibo, with its main summit, Uhuru Peak (5,892 m), the focus of our attention.
Combined climbs are possible with its larger neighbors, Mount Kenya (5199 m) and Mount Stanley (5109 m) in Uganda, respectively the second and third highest peaks in Africa. We have made this our specialty.
And don't forget, with a minimum 3-day extension, the legendary safaris of East Africa are available to reward you for your climb: Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, Masai Mara or Amboseli in Kenya.
More than just a climb, Mount Kilimanjaro is a journey.
