Aconcagua reaches almost 7000 meters and is the highest point in South America at exactly 6962 meters. The highest peak that can be reached by trekking, it presents no technical difficulty, except for the Polish Glacier route. It is part of the “7 Summits” challenge and attracts mountaineers from all over the world. It is the second most visited summit on the planet after Kilimanjaro.
Whichever route you take, the ascent is quite brutal in terms of acclimatization and, located in the southern hemisphere, its main difficulty lies in its very high altitude and the often violentwinds that sweep across the summit, sometimes accompanied by bad weather. It can be climbed from early December to mid February.
Aconcagua can be climbed via four main routes: the normal route and the classic northwest face starting from Plaza de Mulas, the east side or Polish traverse, the east side via the Polish Glacier (a more alpine route), and finally, the south face, which is very challenging and rarely climbed anymore due to the conditions on the mountain.
